<p>iComo esta! As community managers of XSplit we have created a team of streamers on both Twitch and Hitbox which we call XSplit stream teams. We have built up such a great variety of games being streamed from Pokemon to Grand Theft Auto 5 that proves there will always be something that everyone enjoys.</p>
<p>I’m Sllayt3r, and I’m the UK community manager of XSplit. I decided I’d like to introduce you to the members of the Twitch stream team that are from the UK.</p>

<p>To start off we have LTZONDA. A Twitch partnered streamer who is well known for his high energy and interactive daily streams playing games like Grand Theft Auto 5, Fifa 15 and Call of Duty. Having been streaming for over a year now, he has amassed over 230K followers and is still growing.</p>

<p>I have a lot of fun watching GiveMeANameX who streams almost everyday and like LTZonda is a big Grand Theft Auto 5 player, but also dabbles in Call of Duty and from time to time plays some RPG games. Known for his godlike beard, Rob is a UK streamer who hasn’t yet been streaming a year, but has already amassed over 13k followers.</p>

Phase, with her epic red hair and no nonsense attitude mainly streams Call of Duty and isn’t half bad either, whereas Candy likes to stream horror games which when scared, her heart rate monitor go crazy along with a loud scream that deafens headphones users everywhere.</p>

<p>In case it’s not obvious yet, we love speedrunners! We’re part of the <a href="/blog/xsplit-is-part-of-humble-bundle-2015">Humble ‘Awesome Games Done Quick 2015’ Bundle</a> early this year where an XSplit license was included in one of the bundles. For this month, we are supporting another speedrunning event named European Speedster Assembly also known as ESA this coming June 28 – July 5 2015.</p>

<p>ESA is an annual speedrunning marathon organized by the Swedish speedrunning community. <p>We highly encourage you to watch their marathon to witness the best speedrunners of Sweden! Aside from that, there will also be some fun and exciting activities during the event which will of course include XSplit license giveaways and many more.</p>

<p>We’ve received data from helpful users showing screenshots of a compromised user. While there’s XSplit data in the picture, that data does not come from our cloud systems, but are from a local file found on the users hard drive. We believe the hacker got access through yet undetermined means, and from there started collected account info throughout the computer. There’s no evidence that XSplit was used to gain access to the computer, everything points to a previous breach which could have been done through any type of malware.</p>

<p>We have learned of rumours that our database has been compromised, and that account information has been leaked.</p>
<p>We are looking into the user reports to verify whether there has been a breach – at this point in time there’s no evidence for it. We’ve reached out to the users who contacted us directly to get details, but so far they haven’t responded. We take the matter very seriously though.</p>

<p>We have completely overhauled setting up your first stream in XSplit Broadcaster 4.3, making it easier than ever to open the program and get streaming! You can now easily add your camera, a source, and a background in moments!</p>



<p>We’ve also updated the sources menu, meaning you can find everything you need even faster. We’ve also added the ability to easily add lower thirds with templates that you can customize with just a few clicks!</p>



<p>The new background source comes with some images you can use, or you can add your own. Using a background source now means you never have to worry about any other sources going behind your background!</p>



<p>XSplit Broadcaster 4.3 also has a number of bug fixes and improvements to current features. </p>

XSplit Broadcaster 4.3 Launches with New Features


<p>TikTok, the social media giant, is no doubt interested in live streaming. In fact, some accounts are able already able to go live but it’s still a limited feature.  While the content is currently still mostly focused on the short form TikTok is known for you will find more and more live streams among it. So, let’s discuss how and why you should be streaming to TikTok.</p>



<h2 id="h-why-would-you-want-to-stream-there">Why would you want to stream there?</h2>



<p>TikTok is one of the fastest-growing social media sites around at the moment. The growth TikTok has seen has been huge! As noted by <a href="https://blog.hootsuite.com/tiktok-stats/">Hootsuite</a>, “Eight new users join TikTok every second, with an average of 650,000 new users joining daily.” They also noted that user retention is far higher than many of its competitors, meaning people are using the app for longer.</p>



<p>It has also been noted that organic audience growth is currently much more open than on many other platforms. Some have likened it to the early days of YouTube when there was a much higher chance your content would get served to people. This could be down to a huge demand with fewer content creators out there to serve these needs. So, at the time of writing, it really would be a great time to get on board and start not only creating content but streaming!</p>

<h2 id="h-how-can-you-stream-to-tiktok">How can you stream to TikTok?</h2>



<p>While going live from the app can be easy, going live from your desktop requires a few more steps. Firstly, you’ll need your custom RTMP info. There are no clear guidelines yet on how TikTok distributes access, but hopefully, it opens up to more users in the future.</p>



<p>If you have access, go into the TikTok app, either on your phone or the desktop app. Click go live and enter details like Title, Topic, Cover Image/Thumbnail. If you want to enable sub-only mode and if you want your video to end when the stream stops. If you have a shaky internet connection I wouldn’t enable the last item. You’ll then be taken to a screen where you can see your server URL and stream key.</p>



<p>Next, you’ll need some live stream software for your PC, like <a href="/broadcaster">XSplit Broadcaster</a>. In Broadcaster, open up the <a href="https://www.xsplit.com/support/broadcaster/tips-tricks-and-tutorials/setting-up-custom-rtmp-for-different-platforms">Custom RTMP broadcast plugin</a>. Title your output, then put in your RTMP URL and stream key.</p>



<p>In terms of stream settings, I’d recommend going with 1280×720 resolution, 30 fps, and a bitrate of 3000 to start. TikTok live streams are in landscape mode, so you don’t have to orient your content vertically like you would with pre-recorded content.</p>



<p>From there, you’re ready to stream to TikTok from your PC! This platform is only going to continue to grow and we will be sure to keep an eye on it here on our blog!</p>

How to Live Stream to TikTok from your PC


<p>The term “VTuber” or “Virtual YouTuber” was originally created in reference to the virtual online personality Kizuna AI in 2016. Until a couple of years ago, VTubers were limited to just a handful of accounts. Due to the complications involved in rendering and animating the character model in real-time. However, recent advances in cheap and well-designed motion capture software have made creating and using a virtual avatar while streaming accessible to almost anyone. Want to try it yourself? Here’s how to stream a VTuber!</p>



<h2>How to stream a VTuber: Creating an avatar</h2>



<p>Creating the 3D model that will represent you while you’re on stream is the first step to streaming a VTuber. For this guide, we’re going to use an online app called <a href="https://animaze.readyplayer.me/">ReadyPlayerMe</a>. This program lets you create a 3D model right in your web browser. It’s admittedly not the most powerful or detailed creation tool you can find, but it’s pretty good, very easy to use, and free.</p>



<p>You start your avatar by choosing a body type you want to model with. Next, upload a photo of yourself (or take one with your webcam) and customize it using the app, which lets you adjust things like skin color as well as hair color and length. You can also add some accessories if you wish, like glasses. Once you’re happy with how you look, click “Next” and download your avatar file somewhere where you can find it easily.</p>

<h2>Converting your avatar for use</h2>



<p>The next step is to get your avatar animated. We’re going to use a program called <a href="http://animaze.us">Animaze</a>. This is the evolution of a program you may have heard of called FaceRig. Animaze is free to use on Steam, but it doesn’t natively support the model format that ReadyPlayerMe generates. So, we’ll have to run through a couple of quick steps to convert it.</p>



<p>Once you’ve downloaded and installed Animaze, you’ll find a program called “Animaze Editor” in the Tools section of your Steam library. You’ll need to run this program first, and use it to open the avatar you created by going to the Assets menu tab, clicking on “Import 3D Object” and selecting the file you downloaded from ReadyPlayerMe.</p>



<p>After a bit of loading time, you’ll see your avatar pop up on the main screen. You can use Animaze Editor to fine-tune your avatar, but if you’d rather just move on to the fun part, right-click on your avatar’s file name in the Hierarchy Panel on the left-hand side and select “Bundle”. Choose a folder to export to, and once you get the confirmation dialogue, open the main Animaze program from the Software section of your Steam library.</p>



<h2>Get that model moving</h2>



<p>Now it’s time to meet your virtual self! From the main Animaze screen, click the Avatars icon on the navigation bar on the left-hand side, and then choose “Imports” from the pop-out window. Then click the big plus button, and select the file you saved in the previous step. It ends in “.avatar” – be careful not to confuse it with ReadyPlayerMe file which ends with “.glb”.</p>



<p>After the import completes, you’ll see your virtual self on the main program screen. Make sure that the camera window (upper right by default) is showing your main camera. If it’s not, click the drop-down arrow to change it. Once you’ve got your avatar loaded and the right camera selected, just hit “Calibrate” and follow the directions to get your model moving more accurately with your actions.</p>

<h2>How To Stream the VTuber</h2>



<p>The final step is getting your VTuber into <a href="https://www.xsplit.com/broadcaster">XSplit Broadcaster</a> so you can go live with it and introduce your audience to the new you. Within Animaze, simply click the big button at the bottom of the screen labeled “Enable Virtual Camera”. Then switch back over to XSplit Broadcaster and use the Add Source menu to add the Animaze Virtual Camera, which can be found in the Devices section. You should see your VTuber pop right up on the screen, and you’re good to go. Note that if you’re planning to use a chroma key background for your avatar coming out of Animaze, you’ll need to activate the chroma key option on the Animaze Virtual Camera input within Broadcaster. For it to work properly right-click the input name and go to the “Color” tab of the menu for chroma options.</p>

<p>다양한 시간대, 취향, 지역에 따라 공통점을 찾기란 어렵지만 일부 기록된 데이터를 기반으로 현재 인터넷 방송의 활동력은 주로 어느 시간대에 활발한지 알아보았습니다. 여기 기재된 <strong>시간대는 모두 UTC 기준</strong>의 시간대이니 참고하시고 읽어보시기 바랍니다.</p>



<h2>트위치에 시청자가 가장 많은 시간대는 언제인가요?</h2>



<p>인터넷 방송 도중 최대한 잠재적 유입 시청자들을 사로잡기 위해 트위치 플랫폼의 경우, 어떤 시간대에 일반 시청자 수가 가장 많은지 알아봐야 할 가치가 있습니다. 트위치 플랫폼을 예시로 든 이유는 비교적 다른 플랫폼에 비해 공개된 자료 및 도구가 많이 존재하기에 접근성을 고려하여 내려진 판단입니다.</p>



<p><a href="https://twitchtracker.com/statistics">TwitchTracker</a>에 의하면 평일과 주말에 따라 시청자들의 패턴이 달라집니다.</p>

<p>평일에는 최대 시청자 수가 오후 6시에서 8시 사이 인것으로 보여집니다. 약 1백6십만 ~ 1백75만명의 시청자들이 해당 시간대에 트위치에 접속하고 있습니다. 가장 타당한 이유는 이 시간대에 성인들이 알바, 직장 등에서 퇴근하거나 청소년들이 학업을 마치고 집에 돌아오게 되는 시간대인 이유가 가장 유력합니다. 오후 8시 30분에서 9시가 되어서야 서서히 시청자 수가 다시 줄어드는 추세입니다.</p>



<p>주말에는 대부분 사람들이 평일보다 더 한가할 수 밖에 없습니다. 그러기에 자연적으로 더욱 일찍이 트위치 시청자 수가 늘어나게 됩니다. 데이터에 의하면 오후 4시부터 6시 30분 사이에 약 2백30만 ~ 2백70만명의 시청자들이 트위치 방송을 시청합니다. 약간 다른점이 있다면, 주말에는 오전 11시부터 피크 지점인 오후 6시 30분까지 서서히 시청자 수가 항상 올라가는 그래프 인것이 인상적입니다. 피크 시간이 지나서야 서서히 다시 시청자 수가 줄어들게 됩니다.</p>



<p>재밌는 점은 주중에 어느날이던 아침 일찍인 오전 7시에서 오전 9시에 전체 시청자 수가 가장 낮은 수치 인것으로 드러납니다.</p>



<p>이 정보를 가지고 어느정도 감을 잡으셨다면, 직장인 및 학생의 경우 바로 집에 온 뒤 오후 5시 에서 6시 사이에 방송을 켜는것이 방송 시간의 길이와는 상관없이 더 유입 시청자를 받을 확률이 높을 것입니다. 방송 시간도 고려한다면 최소한 오후 9시까지는 한다면 더욱 최적화된 환경에서 방송을 한다는 이론입니다.</p>



<p>하지만 이것은 이론일 뿐 다른 데이터를 확인해보면 조금 더 섬세한 부분을 확인할 수 있습니다.</p>



<h2>어느 시간대에 스트리머들이 방송을 주로 켜는가?</h2>



<p>각 시청자들도 주어진 시간에서만 원하는 방송 채널을 선택하여 시청할 수 밖에 없습니다. 게다가 전 세계에 수 많은 스트리머 및 유튜버들이 앞다투어 인터넷 방송에 뛰어들고 있으니 그만큼 어려운 경쟁률을 뚫고 시청자들의 관심을 끌어야 합니다. 생각해보면 본업이 있거나 학생인 스트리머들은 대부분 비슷한 시기에 방송을 시작하고 비슷한 시기에 방송을 종료할 수 밖에 없습니다. 그러기 때문에 내가 조금 더 시간의 여유가 있다면 남들이 방송을 하지 않는 시간대에 내 방송 시간을 관리하는 것이 경쟁률을 줄일 수 있다는 점 입니다.</p>

<p>놀랍지 않지만 평일에는 스트리머들이 활동할 때 시청자들이 활발히 활동하는 시간대와 얼추 비슷합니다. 대부분 오후 6시에서 8시 사이에 여러 트위치 채널들이 생방송 송출을 시작하며 이때 시작된 채널들만 따로 모아서 분석하면 대략 총합 6만명의 트위치 채널들이 활성화 되어 있습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 금요일이 예외였던 이유는 대부분의 스트리머들이 목요일 밤 늦게 까지 방송을 하더라도 금요일에는 새벽부터 방송을 시작하는 패턴이 보입니다. 금요일 새벽 1시에서 2시 사이에도 채널 개수는 약 6만3천명 정도였습니다.</p>



<p>주말에는 당연히 스트리머 및 시청자들이 시간에 여유가 있어서 피크는 오후 8시에 시작하지만 평일과는 달리 대략 7만2천 ~ 7만 3천개의 트위치 채널들이 실시간 방송을 하고 있습니다.</p>



<p>이와 반대로 가장 적은 트위치 채널 개수가 활성화 되었을때는 언제였을까요? 평일엔 아침 9시 즈음에 가작 적은 트위치 채널 개수로 대략 2만2천 ~ 2만3천개의 채널들이 활성화 되어 있으며 주말에도 마찬가지로 아침 9시에는 약 2만7천 ~ 3만1천개의 트위치 채널들만 실시간 상태인 것으로 확인됬습니다.</p>



<p>위의 상식대로 풀어 나가자면 아침 시간대에는 스트리머 경쟁률이 적으니 곧 아침에 방송을 시작하면 더 많은 시청자들을 유입할 수 있을까 라는 질문이 성립되지만 일단 답변은 No 입니다. 왜냐면 그 시간대 역시 가장 적은 시청자 수를 보여주기 때문입니다.</p>



<p>이러기에 조금 더 고민해야될 부분은 시간대 뿐만 아니라 시청자들의 요구사항이라던가 내가 방송할 때의 다른 스트리머들의 공통점을 찾아 해당 부분에서 경쟁력 있는 컨텐츠를 생각해보며 균형을 맞춰야 하는 것 입니다.</p>



<h2>최적화된 스트리머와 시청자 수 비율은 언제인가?</h2>



<p>시청자들이 수요라면 스트리머들은 공급자 입장이 되는 것입니다. 우리는 스트리머의 입장으로 이 글을 보는것이기에, 우리도 공급자의 입장이 되어봐야 합니다. 즉 나 말고 다른 스트리머들은 곧 경쟁자들이라는 낙인이 주어집니다. 자연스럽게도 스트리머 개채수가 많다면 시청자들의 분포도 역시 분산되어 많은 시청자들이 흩어지게 됩니다. 하지만 이 예시는 모든 시청자들이 모든 스트리머들을 골고루 시청한다는 전제하에 이루어 지지만 현실은 그렇지 않습니다. 하지만 데이터를 분석하면 현실과 이상적인 현상의 타협점을 찾아 볼 수 있으니 확인 해보도록 하겠습니다. 조금 더 공정한 분석을 위해 ‘인기’ 또는 ‘인지도’를 배려하지 않는 채로 데이터를 분석해보겠습니다.</p>

<p>토요일에는 피크 시간대가 오후 12시 에서 2시 사이이며 채널 당 시청자 40 ~ 45명 꼴이며 일요일엔 더욱 더 힘차게 토요일과 같은 시간대에 채널 당 시청자 50 ~ 60명 까지 올라가는 수준이라 합니다.</p>



<p>반대로 스트리머 수와 시청자 수 비율이 최악일 때는 평일 기준으로 새벽 1시에서 3시 사이이며 대략 채널 당 시청자 18 ~ 19명 정도 라고 합니다. 이 현상도 금요일만 유독 20 ~ 21명의 시청자 꼴로 확인된다 합니다.</p>



<p>주말에는 비슷한 비율이 나오는 시간대는 새벽 3시에서 4시 사이라고 합니다. 대략 채널 당 시청자 18 ~ 19명 정도 입니다.</p>



<p>이 정보를 가지고 날짜, 시간, 기간 등을 조합해보면 어느정도 감이 잡히리라 생각합니다. 내 성격과 콘텐츠 주제를 중점으로 시청자가 적을때 방송을 하는것이 맞는지, 경쟁률이 극심하더라도 시청자들이 많을때 할지 고민해보시기 바랍니다. 여기서 이제 플러스 알파 (+@) 요소들을 적용해보면 나만의 방송각을 잡는데 도움이 될 것입니다.</p>
